Farm Fun

We took our friends to the farm. The farm is lots of fun for kids.

We got to feed the chickens.

Pump water for the horses, this one is Buster.

And we saw this yellow spider by the creek.

Splash!! (part two)

When I go to Cecelia's pool, I stay in the shallow end. But the water still comes up high for me.
I jump off the stairs and swim to the other side.

Splash!! (part one)

Our friend Cecelia has a pool in her backyard. They invite us over and we swim in it all day. At the end of the day I have wrinkly raisin feet and hands.
I love to jump in the deep end.

These are my handstands ... 1st try:

2nd try:

Bruschalsa

Tonight I helped my mama make salsa and bruschetta. We got the tomatoes and onions from the vegetable farm (http://www.honeybrookorganicfarm.com/).

I used a very sharp knife to cut the tomatoes. I was very careful. I didn't cut onions because it spices my eyes. We put in cilantro to make salsa. I am a good cilantro picker. Then we had to grind it up. Then we put in salt and pepper and lime.

Bruschetta is just the same as salsa. But we put in basil to make bruschetta. And salt and pepper and vinegar.

This one is the bruschetta:

This one is salsa:

That's how they look the same. But they don't taste the same. But they are both yummy.

Horsing Around

This week I went to Horse Camp (http://www.ponyshare.com/). It was fun and exciting. I met lots of new friends.

This is me and my pony, Coco. I learned how to ride with the reins. Reins are how you move the pony to where you want him to go. When you want to go left, you pull the left side and when you want to go right, you pull the right side. You stop by pulling both sides at the same time and then let go. Then you lean forward, put one leg over and jump down.

Here I am feeding Coco. I am feeding him a carrot. You put out your hand and it has to be flat or he will think your fingers are carrots.

On the last day, we decorated our ponies. We put string, hair clips, stickers and spray paint on our pony. We also had races; we won three times and the other team won two.

I want to go again next year.

Birthday Pie

Wednesday was Papa's birthday. We gave him a birthday chair. We had to build it - we got it from IKEA. It was fun. It even smells like IKEA. We got some icecream at IKEA too when we bought the chair.

My sister helped a little bit too.

I would like to live at IKEA and I would hide in the little egg chairs and sleep in the bed with the heart blankets and canopy. My mom said I'm getting too big to fit inside and my sister tipped the egg chair over since she's so much bigger.

We made Papa a cherry pie because he doesn't like cake.

Before Papa came home, we went to the doctors and I got four shots for kindergarten. The nurse gave me one light pink band-aid and three sparkle band aids. It hurt alot but I didn't cry.

Beekeeping

Today at "our" farm, I learned how to harvest honey. Here are the boxes where to bees live. The top two drawers have been taken off already and the bottom two are where the queen and all the worker bees will live during the winter. The honey in the bottom drawers is for them to eat. The honey in the top two are for us to eat.

To get the honey out of the honeycomb cells, you have to scrap the top beeswax off both sides of the frame. I think there are nine frames in each drawer.

Beekeeper Bob is showing me how to open up the honey cells with a fork brush.

If you brush it too hard, you break off too much of the cells and the bees have to work hard to repair it. Then the frames go in a spinner and the honey is spun out of the little honeycombs.

You can see the silver spinner in the back of the picture. You put two frames in the spinner at a time and spin them on both sides. The spinner went so fast it made my whole arm feel wobbly.

The empty frames are put back in the drawer and stacked on top of the other drawers. The bees will fill the cells up with honey again.

I like to eat honey but not the beeswax; it tastes weird.

Squirts in Squirts

A favorite place to play are these water squirts not too far away from our house.

We really like the see how high we can jump.

No, Mom, we are NOT ready to go home yet!
